The storyline of My Life as a Zucchini is quite sad, but it’s something that can happen all over the world, and it starts when the main character called Icare – Zucchini, is placed to a foster home by his police officer friend, Raymond. Icare was raised by his alcoholic mother, and one day, when she came home, Icare accidentally kills her by throwing her off the stairs. This is how Icare arrives at the police station, declaring everything that he went through, with his alcoholic mother, and his father being imprisoned, so he’s taken away to this foster home where he’ll live until he receives a foster home.
At first, Icare, or Zucchini, how he likes to be called, doesn’t like the place where he arrived, mainly because the kids there are quite hostile, but slowly, he befriends everyone and creates a special bond with Simon, the boy who knows the reasons why every kid arrived there. Simon manages to find out why Icare is there, as well, and the two kids get to have a lot of fun together.
One day, a girl arrives at the orphanage, Camille, and Zucchini instantly falls in love with her. Camille also has a sad story, witnessing to her father killing her mother, and now, her aunt might get her custody, but not because she loves Camille, but because she will receive a great amount of money.
Camille manages to record her aunt’s terrible character and how she treats the poor girl, so, the aunt loses Camille’s custody. Icare, during his whole time at the orphanage, creates a strong, loving connection between him and the officer who took him there, Raymond, so he adopts both Camille and the Zucchini, since these two cannot be separated. Even though Icare and Camille are now in the custody of Raymond, they still keep in touch with the kids from the orphanage.
